Thematic tone
Destruction is only malicious when it’s given purpose. The Given attribute should feel like Moore’s law: exponentially progressing. The Given attribute should feel like a nuclear bomb: awe-inspiring, and unbelievably destructive. The Given attribute should feel like the endless puzzle of philosophy.
The Given attribute embodies a wide range of categories, including but not limited to:
- Machines
- Technologies
- Buildings
- Theories
- Systems (E.G. languages)
- Philosophies
- Mathematical concepts
Given is ultimately home to technology, constructs, and concepts.
Heroes in the Given are complete objects, such as machines, vehicles, buildings, and metaphysical creations both historical and theoretical. Equipment cards are components or pieces of a whole, such as microchips or plate-metal. Action cards are events or processes.
Attribute mechanics
In mechanical practice, this means that Given cards reward players for following predictable reveal sequences and using their in-play cards as resources.
Revealing Heroes in a progressive sequence (single-heart, double-heart, triple-heart) will trigger unique abilities, at the same time as telegraphing your strategy to your opponent. In addition to sequentially revealing cards, Given uses its own in-play cards as a resource, allowing you to destroy your in-play cards for beneficial purposes.
These abilities represent the exponential, and iterative nature of science, philosophy, and engineering.
